NEW Advanced Summer Academy III - Students Grades 9-10 AM Session ONLY Starting: July 14

 

“Understanding the importance of math and science in meeting the requirements for entering into the exciting profession of engineering and technology in this new era of globalization is important for students at these grades.”

Curriculum includes Mars Expedition, Solar Powered Vehicle, Water Purification System and involves the use of college laboratories.

 

Experienced engineers will provide course instruction, with support from industry professionals, college faculty and students.  Problem-solving techniques and hands-on laboratory projects will be taught concurrently to reinforce students’ understanding and learning. 

 

The emphasis of this program is on teamwork, innovative problem solving, creative project-based learning -- learning by doing. The objective is to develop student's confidence and leadership skills by involvement in participating project-base learning.

 

All 10th grade students who completed the 2007 Summer Academy are eligible for this program. In addition, selected 10th and 11th grade students will be admitted.  Only the new students will require recommendation from their math or science teacher.

 

The single session will be three weeks in length, and will be for three hours, starting at either 9AM or 1 PM, Monday through Friday. The class will be limited to 25 students, and will be held at the College of Engineering, San Jose State University.
